The Central District Court in Pest found Márta Demeter LMP member of parliament, suspected of abuse of office, guilty on Friday.
Márta Demeter was sentenced to a fine of HUF 1.8 million. The amount of the fine for 1 day was set at HUF 6,000. Thus, in the case of non-payment, it must be converted to 1-1 day imprisonment, that is, if you do not pay, you can spend 300 days behind bars.
At the trial, only the announcement of the verdict was public, the reasoning was given in closed session.
The prosecutor took note of the verdict, but Márta Demeter and her lawyer appealed, so the first-instance verdict is not legally binding.
Speaking to the press after the hearing, the opposition representative said: "we are already there in this regime", that if the members of parliament ask questions, perform their duties, represent the people, sooner or later proceedings will be initiated against them. He said: as before, he is still convinced of his truth, which is why they continue. "We will continue this case and we will fight this fight," he declared.
At the same time, Márta Demeter expressed her gratitude for the many supports she received from people in this matter in recent years.
2022 plus:
Of course, dear Márta, you are a persecuted martyr, an innocent victim of the evil Orbán government. Don't be bothered by the "trifle" that on October 16, 2018, as the LMP vice-chairman of the National Defense and Law Enforcement Committee of the Parliament, he falsely accused the Prime Minister of having Viktor Orbán travel from Cyprus to Hungary on the Air Force A319 Airbus Prime Minister's daughter. But that's the minor problem. The bigger one is that he published data related to the operation of the Hungarian Armed Forces on his social media page , with the comment that the Hungarian Armed Forces transported the Prime Minister's immediate family in a manner that violated the law. That is why it was stated in the indictment that, in violation of your legal obligation, you released information that was "non-public in the public interest".
Did you release it? Quite obviously and undeniably yes. Could you do it? No. Did you do it? Yes. Whether he did this out of ignorance (which is in itself unacceptable from the vice president of the National Defense and Law Enforcement Committee) or was driven by political malice (which is no excuse for anything) is completely indifferent. The fact. that he did something that is punishable by the laws in force. Did it surprise you? Of course, since he could get used to saying what he wants and doing what he wants, it has no consequences on your left-liberal side.
Compared to what an average person would have received for the same thing, you got away cheaply. But that doesn't bother him either, just as his great Christianity doesn't bother him about the possibility of homosexual marriage either. You see, there is also a legal regulation that is stronger than the existing written law, it is called the Bible. How can we expect you to bow your head and apologize for an obvious mistake when you also disregard the higher orders?
You know, Márta, you have to pay for everything . Right now - if the verdict is approved in the second instance - 1.8 million.
