The 750 million forints that the Hungarian people have collected so far to help the Ukrainian refugees is in good hands and will reach the needy, Katalin Novák told the public media on Tuesday during her visit to the Hungarian-Ukrainian border.
"I can say that the help is coming, the help is coming to the right place, because the more than HUF 750 million offered by the Hungarian people is in the best hands and will reach those who really need it now," said the elected President of the Republic, who thanked the Hungarian people and charitable organizations and churches for helping the refugees.
Katalin Novák met with the heads of charitable organizations participating in the Charitable Council operating along the border. He emphasized: it is the job of the country's leaders to find out personally what they can do to help where there is trouble, and now a difficult situation has developed along the border.
He personally experiences - he continued - that the whole of Hungary has moved and everyone wants to help. Because there is a war raging in our neighborhood that affects Hungarians as well, since Hungarian people live in Transcarpathia.
"It's good to see that there is such a collaboration, which has not been seen in Hungary for a long time. People are looking for where they can help, and it's good to see that everyone here is doing their job," he added.
He reported that: at the meeting, which was also attended by Miklós Soltész, the Prime Minister's State Secretary responsible for church and ethnic relations, he thanked the priests, pastors, parish priests, parish priests who try to provide comfort and help locally through the communities, and not only the "obligatory ” they do, but they try to provide the necessary help in everything.
In this regard, he believed that a degree of coordination between aid organizations has now been established, as a result of which the initial burden that fell on the local priests and pastors after the outbreak of the war has eased.
"The cooperation now works very well. And I can see how significantly the local leaders of the government office and municipalities take their part in providing assistance," said the president-elect.
In her Facebook post on Tuesday, Katalin Novák says: "I came to the border to say thank you on behalf of all of us to those who stood up from the first minute. (…) The humility and cooperation that is manifested here is unprecedented".
The president-elect will continue his visit along the Ukrainian border on Tuesday.
