The awards of the 30th Hungarian Innovation Grand Prize for outstanding innovation achievements in 2021 were presented on Thursday, the telegraph office announced about the event in Budapest. The 2021 Hungarian Innovation Grand Prix was awarded to CycloLab Kft. for its pharmaceutical excipient against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

"The field of higher education and innovation has changed significantly: with the change, model-changing higher education institutions have received further development opportunities. In addition to teaching and research, universities are also expected to demonstrate innovation performance," said József Bódis, the State Secretary responsible for higher education, innovation and vocational training at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM).

He pointed out:

higher education has received significant resources in recent years in order to operate quality universities that can become part of the innovation ecosystem.

The Secretary of State highlighted that

Hungary spends 1.6 percent of its GDP on research, development and innovation, with the goal of increasing this ratio to 1.8 percent in the near future.

He also drew attention to the need to use the European Union's opportunities to obtain additional funds.

János Pakucs, the honorary president of the Hungarian Innovation Association, spoke about the fact that innovation contributes significantly to the performance of the Hungarian economy.

The enterprises participating in the 2021 tender were able to show HUF 12 billion in additional revenue directly through their innovation.

There are successful creative communities in Hungary, and it is possible to carry out competitive activities that produce added value in the country, which is also demonstrated by the Hungarian Innovation Grand Prix - this was said by Péter Závodszky, the president of the Hungarian Innovation Foundation.

It was announced: 35 applications were received by the deadline of February 2, 2022, the committee qualified 33 applications as effective and successful innovations implemented in 2021, and the awardees were selected from among them.
