The National Security Act of 1995 needs to be amended - József Horváth, former Deputy Director General of Civil Defense Operations, former Deputy Director General of the Military Security Office and the Military National Security Service, told the Mediaworks News Center. - can be read in Magyar Nemzet.
According to the expert, the definition of national security risk in the almost thirty-year-old legislation should be adapted to the expectations of the age. This is currently possible, as the government has the two-thirds majority required to amend the law.
The major general believes that it would also be necessary to vet the parliamentarians before they take up their mandate. József Horváth drew attention to the fact that currently only the members of the National Security and National Defense and Law Enforcement Committees of the Parliament are screened by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, and that information sensitive to the security of the Hungarian nation can come into the possession of any representative.
In József Horváth's view, in the case of non-governmental organizations that serve political goals and are financed from abroad, the basic question is which ones want to actively intervene in the domestic political life of the given country. - If we can answer this, then the problems will be simplified, because if someone wants to interfere in the democratic functioning of a state, it is already a risk - he emphasized.
According to him, there is an even greater risk when money of uncertain origin shows a negative image of our country abroad, which can also cause financial damage to Hungary.
Among other things, this is also the reason why proceedings are being initiated against us in the EU, stated József Horváth.
