The Council of the European Union adopted the fifth package of sanctions against Russia through a written procedure in response to the Russian military aggression against Ukraine and the atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces in Ukraine, the EU Council announced on Friday.
According to the council announcement, the aim of the new EU austerity measures is to increase the pressure on the Russian government and the country's economy, as well as to limit Russian resources intended for aggression against Ukraine.
The sanctions package imposes an import ban on coal from Russia. He orders a complete ban on financial transactions for four key Russian banks. It introduces a mooring ban on Russian - or Russian-operated - ships in EU ports. It imposes a targeted export ban on key technologies. It prohibits the participation of Russian companies in EU public procurement and orders an import ban on luxury products.
