Christians remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. On the occasion of the holiday, Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, will present a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in the Esztergom Basilica, Győr County Bishop András Veres, president of the MKPK, at 10 a.m. in the Assumption Cathedral in Győr, announced the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference (MKPK). in his announcement sent to MTI.
As written: the name Palm Sunday comes from the Latin expression "Dominica palmarum", i.e. Palm Sunday, which refers to the procession before the Holy Mass. In the Catholic Church, the traditional Holy Mass on Palm Sunday begins with a procession reminiscent of the entry into Jerusalem.
The faithful who gather in front of the church greet the priest and his entourage entering the church with palm branches or bark branches, remembering how the crowd once celebrated Jesus arriving in Jerusalem.
During the ceremony on Palm Sunday, the story of Jesus' suffering, the passion, is told. With this, the Catholic Church expresses that the glorious entry into Jerusalem is the beginning of the series of events that continues with the suffering and death of Jesus, and then is completed with his resurrection, "bringing us the salvation that nourishes the hope of eternal life in all believers", reads the statement of the MKPK .
