What is music making? A prayer hidden behind the notes. Then let's pray together! That's how I came up with the uplifting idea, it would be great if the instruments were played simultaneously in the music schools of Hungary - said Andrea Várnagy, Ferenc Liszt Prize-winning pianist, inventor of the Magic of Music Movement, mastermind of the national Spirit Bridge initiative.
The Hungarian Reformed Charity Service joined the initiative of the ZeneRázslat Movement and the Association of Hungarian Music Schools and Art Schools, the "Lélek-híd" national program. At six o'clock on April 8, the musical instruments started playing simultaneously in the music education institutions. The sixty-minute concerts conveyed the sympathy and support of the musicians to the people living in Transcarpathia.
- I am very attached to Transcarpathia. The Beregsász II. Ferenc Rákóczi Transcarpathian Hungarian College has always hosted the courses of my mentor program - said Andrea Várnagy, Franz Liszt Prize-winning pianist, creator of the Magic of Music Movement, and originator of the nationwide Spirit Bridge initiative. – I took in refugees, like everyone else, I also undertook voluntary work, but something was still missing: my medium and tool: music. How could you send a message through music? I thought.
I also believe in the power of common prayer. What is music making? A prayer hidden behind the notes. Then let's pray together! That's how I came up with the uplifting idea that it would be great if the instruments were played simultaneously in music schools in Hungary.
Parents, children, and teachers would play together at the same time, choirs and orchestras could be the actors of the concerts, so everyone who wants to send a message with the sounds, Andrea Várnagy told our portal. The musician added: in this situation, it is very important to show the children - because they have a lot of questions about the war - what our innermost mission is: to stand by those in difficult situations, to help as much as we can! This is also the essence of art: it should be useful, turn towards events that move society, forge unity. – Várnagy Andrea informed us: the Soul Bridge was given this name and concept because she believes that soul bridges are built through music.
On Friday morning, the pianist traveled to Beregszász, where he played the piano with a little boy from Subcarpathia, then logged in via the Internet and ceremoniously opened the concert series.
On Friday night, we built a community, which is also the best medicine against fear, says the musician. In this way, those in need can see and know that we stand together, when we say, God be with you, it has power: we actually place our fate and our lives in God's hands.
