The monument to István Csukás (1936-2020), the writer and artist of the nation, in the artist's plot of the Farkasrét cemetery, has been completed for Poetry Day, announced the heirs of István Csukás.
As mentioned in the announcement, among the author's best-known fairy-tale heroes, Pom Pom, drawn by Ferenc Sajdik, and Süsü, the dragon, designed by Sándor Lévai, were created by the sculptor Attila Pintér. Two quotes from the poet were placed on the tombstone.
István Csukás was born on April 2, 1936 in Kisújszállás, and has lived from his writings since 1957. Between 1968 and 1971 he was an employee of Hungarian Television, from 1978 he was the editor-in-chief of the Móra Ferenc Youth Publishing House, then he was a member of the editorial board of Új Idő and Kölyök Magazin, from 1993 he worked as the editor-in-chief of Piros Pont, in 2015 he became a permanent member of the Hungarian Writers' Association .
Generations have grown up on such legendary tales as those of Pom-pom; the Süsü, dragon; the Mirr-murr; the Big Ho-ho-ho-Fisherman, Hard Hat and Potato Nose, Summer on the Island and The Littlest Jumper. In addition, audio and TV plays, films, plays are linked to his name and he also wrote poems.
