On Good Friday, in Szőgyén, an unusual Way of the Cross devotion took place. The sufferings of Christ were not remembered at the Calvary of the Szent Mihály church garden, as in recent years. In front of the symbols of the Stations of the Cross erected around the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the faithful community remembered the sufferings of Christ, at one of the stations, a newly completed memorial cross was erected on the right side of the church.
The 3.5-meter-high, three-stepped cross was completed thanks to the dedication and work of Róbert Smidt Joined the erection of the commemorative cross, the Good Friday procession and installation of the cross, ft. The following inscription can be read on the cross raised by the Smidt family out of gratitude:
"Thanks to God, hope for people! 2022.” The back of the cross reads "For God - Country - Family" and "Donated by the Smidt family 2022 - Good Friday"
Based on an old photograph, the memory goes back a hundred years that a wooden cross stood in the same place, which has now disappeared, and can only be seen in a photo taken during the Lord's Day procession in 1924. As in the lives of our ancestors, today the memorial cross , which was donated by the Smidt family, erected on Good Friday by the Szógyen community of believers and consecrated by deacon Zsolt Farkas
