"This has already gone too far" - according to a transgender psychologist, the proliferation of children changing their gender out of fashion is worrying.
A transgender psychologist attributes the alarming increase in the number of American teenagers suffering from gender identity disorder to the influence of social media and the quarantine period, as well as hormone treatments recommended in the absence of a mental health assessment. According to Erica Anderson, a well-known specialist speaking to the Los Angeles Times, even parents who are open to gender reassignment are horrified by the unreasonable medical procedures recommended for children. The paper also draws attention to the fact that the first American clinic specializing in the gender reassignment of young people opened in Massachusetts in 2007, but today there are more than 60 such institutions in the United States.
So far, Erica Anderson has helped hundreds of teenagers intending to change their gender identity in the "transition" and in making the final decision. He is a 71-year-old clinical psychologist working with transgender people
speaking to the Los Angeles Times, he drew attention to the explosive increase in the number of gender-changing American children. His concerns about this phenomenon partly stem from his own experiences, as the biologically male specialist admits that it took him more than half a century to "become a woman".
As he explained to the Times, some of the children identified as trans are "influenced by their peers and social media", but the current, alarmingly high number of cases also plays a role in the fact that some professionals recommend hormones or surgery to minors without a prior mental health examination. According to Anderson, social isolation, the exponentially increased consumption of social media and the popularity of alternative identities also have a severe impact on children's development.
I think that this has already gone too far, said the psychologist, who was referred to as the most recognized expert in his field throughout the country, until he expressed his concerns about the gender course.
"For a while, we were all happy that society is becoming more accepting and that more parents than ever support their child's gender identity change. However, we have now come to the point where children come to the clinics whose parents say that "this doesn't make any sense".
said the psychologist.
The Times article highlights that as Republican-led states work to stop ruining the lives of transgender children, advocates for the ruling Democratic Party have made it clear they will attack conservative efforts. For example, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said last week that lawmakers working to protect minors from puberty blockers and transgender surgeries had been "warned" by the US Justice Department.
