According to White House sources, the 79-year-old president thinks he is the most suitable candidate.
Two sources told The Hill that Biden told former President Barack Obama that he plans to run again, the Post Millennial reports.
"Biden wants to run, and he's making that clear to everyone," a source familiar with the discussions told The Hill.
This source noted that Biden may be the Democratic candidate most likely to defeat Trump, despite his declining approval ratings.
“I think he thinks he's the only one who can beat Trump. I don't think he thinks there's anyone in the Democratic Party who can beat Trump, and that's the biggest factor."
said the source.
In addition to his low popularity index, questions have also been raised about Biden's age.
Biden, who took office at the age of 78, is the oldest president-elect. If elected for a second term, he would be 82 years old.
According to a CNBC survey published last week, only 38 percent of Americans approve of Biden's job performance.
According to the latest FiveThirtyEight poll, Biden's approval rating is just under 42 percent.
