Perhaps many people still remember the free (good) birds, the SZDSZ election slogan from the nineties. The party has since disappeared, but its liberal elite is still active on the left today. András Schiffer responds to Róbert Puzsér's writing.
"I agree with 99% of my friend Róbert Puzsér's excellent article https://hang.hu/public…/negyedik-fulkeforradalom-139686… There is only one catch, it reads as follows: »Six corrupt, lying and worthless parties have taken opposition politics hostage. If the left-liberal intelligentsia is able to build a new organization with somewhat suitable staff against these and the Orbán regime – not in alliance with these and the Orbán regime, but against both – then they can challenge Fidesz, but not at first.
Dear Robi,
what if we finally forgot the »left-liberal intellectuals«?
Those who "know, dare, do" for thirty years. Those who have been holding opposition politics hostage for twelve years. Those who in the last four years thought that »Free SZFE«, »Fudan« and continuous Putinism would be the winning card against Orbán. Those who think they have the privilege to say what culture and science are, who can become actors and writers, economists and sociologists in this country. Those who simply accept state support between two dictatorships - they deserve it. Those who, in the last two years, threw away the liberal mockery without further ado and, when they were not writing articles about the "illiberal fascist dictatorship" in foreign newspapers, demanded even more restrictions on rights from Orbán.
Those who are happy to organize conferences from the left, but somehow always manage to stand up for the privileges of elite groups. Those who scientifically demonstrated in 2019 that the alliance will activate the critical mass of non-partisans. Those who confidently announced in 2021 that the »disappointed Fidesz people« will bring about the change of government. Those who petitioned for Gyurcsány's tb privatization rampage in 2007, then found the only obstacle to the opposition's success in Gyurcsány in the fall of 2021.
Those whose bad-quality import of identity politics and good-naturedness are abhorred by millions. Those who see these millions as, at best, deluded and brainwashed.
Those for whom Hungary is successful when it adapts to foreign power expectations without thinking. Those who label correlation seekers as conspiracy theorists without a problem, and the exposure of the dirty games of global capitalism are put on hold. Those who always hold the performance principle accountable to others.
