At the beginning of April, five new trees were planted on Blaha Lujza Square - this is the latest news regarding the renovations taking place there. In addition, the traffic jams became permanent, for which Gergely Karácsony found a solution: motorists should "get out and walk", writes Éva Harangozó in Magyar Nemzet.
The end of the tunnel is not yet in sight regarding the Blaha Lujza tér renovation, as work has almost stopped there for the time being. Due to the upheaval that has been going on for several months, however, traffic disruptions have become permanent in the capital at certain times of the day. It can be seen that the renovation of Blaha Lujza tér has been significantly delayed, despite the fact that the works will cost HUF 400 million more than originally planned, but much less content will be built. As is known, the work started on July 12 last year: first, the slab structure of the underpass was insulated from above. Metropol drew attention to the fact that this part of the work was unfortunately not very successful, as already in November rainwater was collected in buckets in the underpass. At the beginning of April, the newspaper pointed out that the underpass is still soaking wet, water is dripping down the necks of passers-by from above, and the buckets have been found again. In addition to all of this, Magyar Nemzet wrote in February that even the soil bags that were brought to the square in November to plant the trees are still there intact...
...Despite all this, the city administration is not worried: according to the Budapest Transportation Center, the renovation of Blaha Lujza Square is progressing according to plans, and in connection with the aspirations of the capital municipality, the square will be transformed into a meeting place with groves and trees. As can be read on the website of BKK, five new trees were planted at the beginning of April in addition to the existing ash and large oak. They also pointed out that the renovation of Somogyi Béla Street will begin in May, and the modernization of the street is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
According to the plans, when the renovation of Blaha Lujza Square is completed, among other things, a thousand square meters of green space will be created, the crossing of Rákóczi út and Nagykörút will be made barrier-free, the public lighting system will be renewed, and architectural elements reminiscent of the former National Theater and street furniture will be placed on the site.
2022plus: We believe that the renovation of the square is "progressing according to plan". Then we can also know that the plans are not good. Or is it good if an investment, which is a sensitive point for the capital, is made as slowly as Luca's chair? Do you want to combine the underpass with the public shower as an innovative solution? And did you really succeed in planting another 5 or five trees? Hooray! By the time the construction is over, the now only five seedlings will surely grow into a leafy, shade-giving lot. So don't worry, park planning is already on the right track.
