If the corruption accusations of the European Union were true, then there would not be continuous economic growth in Hungary for years - said Balázs Hidvéghi, a member of the European Parliament of Fidesz, in La faute a l'Europe? on the French talk show. Brussels is unable to accept the sovereignty of the Hungarians, he stated.
According to Hidvéghi, these accusations are another example of Brussels using important issues and ideas such as corruption or the rule of law for political blackmail against a conservative, Christian Democratic government.
In the cases investigated by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), charges are brought in an average of 37 percent of the cases, explained Hidvéghi. In France and Hungary this ratio is 67 percent, while in Austria it is 25 percent. According to the representative, this also shows that the European Union does not have a solid benchmark when talking about corruption.
According to the representative, Brussels is unable to accept the sovereign decision of the Hungarian people, even though it is clear, since Fidesz won the elections for the fourth time in a row this year. So are Hungarians voting against their own interests? he asks the question.
