According to Blikk, the door of the magnetic card safe became easy to open during power outages.
On suspicion of theft, the Budapest Police Headquarters ordered an investigation against an unknown suspect based on a report from the Office of the Mayor, because
a large amount of annual passes disappeared
from the room for keeping them, Blikk wrote. The paper knows that the passes were stolen from the Human Department of the Mayor's Office during renovation works, which was possible because there were several power outages in the building during construction works.
According to the newspaper's information, during the power outages, the door of the magnetic card safe became easy to open. Blikk added:
the serial numbers of the stolen passes were handed over to the BKK, so the inspectors can filter out the illegally sold ones.
According to Blikk, they are currently negotiating with BKK whether the town hall should buy the passes again, or whether they will find some other solution.
Here is BKK's response to Blikk's inquiry:
"On the morning of April 27, the staff of the Mayor's Office noticed the disappearance of the pass coupons of some employees from the room used to keep them, which the Office immediately notified the police about. As far as we know, the police have started an investigation, and of course an internal investigation will also be launched due to the incident. Due to the ongoing police investigation, we cannot provide further information at this time. The passes are already being replaced."
