When determining the sanctions, the European Commission should not only focus on fossil energy sources in relation to energy carriers, but should also target nuclear energy, stated Márton Gyöngyösi, the EP representative of Jobbik, during the debate held at the plenary session of the European Parliament

in his speech, he said that although there is broad agreement in the EU that economic sanctions can be used to put the greatest pressure on Russia to stop the war in Ukraine, it was not possible to reduce dependence on Russian energy, it was not possible to diversify the energy supply, nor was it possible to strengthen solidarity between member states.

He stated: Russia is an unreliable energy partner of the European Union, therefore the European Commission should not only focus on fossil energy sources in relation to energy carriers, but should also target nuclear energy. In his opinion, the EU member states should cancel their contracts with the Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom. Similar to the Finnish example, Hungary must cancel Paks II. contract regarding the investment - added the EP representative from Jobbik.
