As is known, President Katalin Novák paid a working visit to Warsaw on his first international trip on Tuesday. The working visit began at noon with a welcome ceremony in the courtyard of the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw - this building is the seat of the office of the President of the Republic of Poland.
Several organs of the Polish press reported that on Tuesday, on Duda's 50th birthday, Katalin Novák, among others, greeted her Polish colleague.
After the meeting with President Andrzej Duda, they also made a joint press statement, which was reported in detail by Magyar Hírlap.
The President of the Republic of Poland expressed great joy that Katalin Novák visited Warsaw for the first time after her election, as this means that the Polish-Hungarian friendship is lasting. He said that during their conversation it became clear that Poland's situation is significantly easier than Hungary's, since it is much more independent of Russian energy.
According to the Polish president, the European Union's sixth package of sanctions, including the oil embargo, is necessary. He expressed his hope that it would be possible to reach an agreement with the Hungarian government and put the package into a form acceptable to everyone. He pointed out that energy diversification will be very difficult for Hungary, a lot of investments will be needed, for which EU funds could also be used, except that the European Commission withholds them from Hungary and Poland as well. It called for a review of its policy.
Duda also pointed out that the EU does not provide adequate resources for the care of Ukrainian refugees. They talked about the cooperation between the two countries within the framework of NATO, the V4 and the Three Seas Initiative, Duda is sure that the cooperation will be fruitful in these areas as well.
Katalin Novák emphasized that she came to Warsaw with love in her heart, and that her visit is not primarily a diplomatic step, but a natural one, and stems from the thousand-year friendship between the two peoples, as well as from the fact that Poles and Hungarians feel close to each other in their values to this day. The head of state stated that a war started by Russia is raging in the common neighbor of the two countries, Ukraine, and in this connection he explained the Hungarian position summarized in ten points, which he stated in his inauguration speech. The ten points include, among other things, that "we condemn Putin's aggression, the armed attack on a sovereign state", "we are not neutral, we stand on the side of the innocent victims and the truth". As he said, Ukraine "protects the gate of Europe".
He pointed out that people in both countries moved to help the refugees at the same time, "the Poles and Hungarians also passed their exams with flying colors out of love for humanity."
Katalin Novák also drew attention to the fact that our country is not an independent country in terms of energy, it needs Russian energy, and it is in a more difficult situation than other EU member states. He reminded that our country has so far voted for all five sanctions packages and he trusts that President Duda will also help ensure that the aspects important to Hungary can be enforced in the sixth package as well. However, for this, he pointed out, resources and money are needed, which is why, together with the Polish president, they called on the EC to hand over the money rightfully due to the two countries from the recovery fund as soon as possible. He emphasized that Poland and Hungary have been able to count on each other in Europe so far, and this will remain so in the future, "we will not let anyone drive a wedge between us".
The head of state also touched on the fact that all possible support must be given to traditional families, since Europe is unable to support itself.
Poland and our country have been doing everything in the past decade to ensure that there are no financial obstacles to having children. "We protect life, families, and children," stressed Katalin Novák, adding that raising children is the right of parents. Katalin Novák visited the Primary School of the Sisters of Nazareth, where Ukrainian refugee children also study. He handed over a donation of HUF five million, which he offered from his personal presidential budget.
During the day, the head of state held talks with the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and later held talks with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Elzbieta Witek, and laid a wreath at the statue of the late Polish President Lech Kaczynski.
