I don't know what Karácsony thinks of himself, Budapest is already unlivable! - the citizens of the capital were outraged.
Gergely Karácsony is preparing for another attack against motorists. It plans to close a significant part of the lower wharf in Pest. The section that functions as the capital's north-south transport corridor. This, of course, causes huge traffic jams, and under his leadership, Budapest has already been drowned in chaos, where it will certainly be impossible to get around from now on.
Of course, people were once again very annoyed by Karácsony's new unacceptable plan, many could hardly contain themselves. The mayor's offense was already known before: he hates drivers because he, unlike hundreds of thousands of his compatriots, failed to obtain a driver's license. Gergely Karácsony would also ban motorists from the Chain Bridge after the wharf . But the people of Budapest were also asked about this.
Budapest, like most European cities, has been struggling with traffic jams for several decades. It's no accident, since hundreds of years ago, as experts say, these cities were not designed for this, not for car traffic. And from the 70s, the number of cars began to rise continuously and drastically. The biggest changes between 2010 and 2019 took place in Budapest under Mayor István Tarlós:
then the situation improved significantly, there were the fewest conflicts between motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Then this quickly changed when the leftist Gergely Karácsony became the mayor. One of his first steps was to take a lane from motorists on practically the entire Nagykörút and turn it into a bicycle lane. At least he did it all by painting a strip there, that is, without any major modifications. Because of this, of course, people came into contact with each other on a daily basis. The whole thing was as if he was deliberately inciting those who want to travel by car and those who want to travel by bicycle against each other.
Christmas is now preparing an even bigger disaster. Although the preparation is excessive, there is no question of any impact study, it simply plans to close the lower wharf in Pest between the Lánchíd and the Elizabeth Bridge.
I don't know what Christmas thinks of himself. The city is already unlivable, almost everything is closed, you can't get anywhere by car, there are huge traffic jams everywhere. It makes it completely impossible for motorists, says a young woman who is asked about the mayor's plans.
As a mechanic, I drive a lot in the city every day. There are still a lot of traffic jams, it's hard to find a parking space, so I'm not very happy that Gergely Karácsony came up with this now. Why do you have to deal with motorists? Is it because he doesn't drive?
a man asks. The question arises rightly in him and in many people, because the mayor did not manage to obtain a driver's license, he failed the exam several times.
According to Ripost's information, he was constantly insecure and even afraid while driving, which is why he had to be stopped several times. Then, after numerous futile attempts, he gave up his driver's license forever.
Well, I could say something very nasty about that, but let's just say that Gergely Karácsony can go wherever he wants. What is the point of these bike lanes? I don't even want to think what will happen to this city if they do this. I also don't understand why the wharf has to be closed for the weekend? It would be more than enough for holidays
says a man on József körút, pointing to the aforementioned bike lane.
Many times even the cyclists themselves do not use the lane marked for them, instead they ride on the sidewalk or slalom between motorists. And it would also be difficult to argue that closing the quay section would further increase traffic jams to an already unbearable level, not to mention air pollution. The already quoted man is not the only one who points out that we could really learn from the fact that weekend closures also cause serious traffic jams, even though weekend traffic is a fraction of normal traffic.
I think it's stupid! Even so, there are usually big traffic jams, so what if they really did this. I think it's absolutely unnecessary. It's still closed on weekends, but then maybe there isn't that much traffic, not so many people go to work. I don't think this is a good idea
says an old man.
I wouldn't be happy about it, I hate all closures! So much is already closed anyway, why do we even need this? I really hope that this will not happen, there are already quite big traffic jams
says a woman.
However, there is not too much hope that Gergely Karácsony will change his mind, because the left-wing mayor is not known for being willing to see his mistakes or for seeking the opinions of experts before making a decision. Those who can give him real advice.
