It is good to be a Hungarian here today, a Reformed Christian, to be among brothers, I am proud that I am Hungarian, I am Reformed, and that so many of us can be together - stressed the President of the Republic Katalin Novák at the ceremony organized on the occasion of the church dedication held on Friday in Magyarlapád, Transylvania.
The President of the Republic said that ten churches were consecrated in ten different settlements on Friday. He emphasized: it is no coincidence that when there is a war and ideological destruction takes place, churches are destroyed first, because they know that this is where communities begin. When we build and renovate churches all over the Carpathian basin, we do it because this is where the strengthening of our communities begins - he pointed out, in the settlement built about 1000 years ago, in 1030, which was then registered as the property of Gizella, the wife of our first holy king.
By consecrating ten churches today, we are also sending a message that we will still be here 1,000 years from now, among brothers and sisters, addressing each other in Hungarian, he added.
The President of the Republic donated a Calvinist cross made by a carpenter from Budapest, symbolizing Reformed unity, to the church and asked the participants to feel the responsibility of the day and fill the church with life. As he said, churches were not renovated to admire them, but to fill their spaces with life.
On the occasion of the Hungarian Reformed Unity Day, on Friday afternoon, thanks were given at the same time for the renovation of ten southern Transylvanian parishes.
On Friday, Katalin Novák met with Kelemen Hunor, Deputy Prime Minister of Romania, in Cluj-Napoca, and with Béla Kató, Bishop of the Transylvanian Reformed Church District, in Nagyneyed, they unveiled the memorial plaque of the bishop's house, and then visited the Gábor Bethlen College building.
