Baptist pastor Sándor Szenczy, president emeritus and founder of the Baptist Charity Service, was born in 1965 in Sajószentpéter. After his conversion and completion of his studies, he contributed to the birth of many churches since 1994. He established the Hungarian Baptist Charity Service 26 years ago, which started with a first donation of HUF 5,000 from a widow.
Under his leadership, it grew into a charitable organization working on several continents, employing thousands of employees and volunteers, caring for 18,000 dependents and educating 14,000 students.
He played an outstanding role in creating a culture of donation in Hungary, including the Shoe Box Action and the Donate Forever! through child support programs. In the course of his profession, he fulfilled his mission by visiting the sites of natural disasters and wars, creating and ensuring the conditions for the operation of a humanitarian organization that today carries out the vast majority of its work for the benefit of the needy in Hungary. His life was defined by the love of his fellow men and the service of his faith, he always professed that he and the organization he created serve God, and that he only follows the heavenly guidance. In addition to numerous prestigious recognitions, Sándor Szenczy, who was awarded the Hungarian Gold Cross of Merit in 2015, leaves behind an unfillable void, to whom millions of needy people around the world can thank for the change in their fortunes. The legacy of his spirituality and work is carried on by the staff of the Baptist Charity Service.
