Restaurants and hotels in Croatia did not rise to the political provocation, they continue to welcome Hungarian guests, the overview of Hirado.hu reveals. Their employee sent inquiries in this regard to half a hundred catering units and hotels in the Adriatic, the answer was positive in all cases, the site showed some of them.

The background to the case is that a statement by Viktor Orbán was misunderstood by some people in Croatia. In connection with the oil embargo, the Prime Minister spoke about the fact that ensuring the energy supply of our country is more difficult than that of other countries because we have no sea, so energy carriers can only arrive in Hungary by land. The prime minister mentioned that there used to be a Hungarian sea, but it was "taken away".

The statement was met with outrage by some in Croatia, with one restaurant in the Adriatic going so far as to put up a sign that read:

We do not serve Hungarians! There is no Welcome to your seas.

The restaurant's website was flooded with outraged comments in Hungarian, and the restaurant's popularity index was also downgraded. The owners of the restaurant were eventually forced to disable commenting options.

Fortunately, the overview of Hirado.hu reveals that all of this is a unique case. Some of the responses of the hotels interviewed by their staff were quoted:

"As far as we are concerned, it is not a problem to accommodate guests of any nationality in our hotels. We welcome all guests, including Hungarians, of course! Here, people are working to restart the tourist season."

"We welcome all Hungarians, at any time!"

"Hungarians are always welcome guests here. We haven't even heard of this case."

"We are delighted to welcome you and your friends! These rumors about Hungarians are simply not true :)"

"Don't worry, Hungarians are always welcome in our hotels. I'm sure it's the same all over Croatia!"

"Why wouldn't Hungarians be welcome here in Croatia? We don't really understand the question. We visit Hungary every year, we love the country and the people."

"We have not heard that even a Croat would not like to see Hungarians! I'm sorry you heard that, but it's not true. We welcome all nations and citizens, especially our neighbors, Serbia, Hungary, Montenegro, Bosnia. Please don't believe anyone who says otherwise!”

"We welcome all Hungarians! Please don't believe everything you heard in the media, the reality is that Croatians love Hungarians very much."

"We were very surprised by your question! There is absolutely no hostile atmosphere in Croatia, we welcome all Hungarians!"

"I have owned a hotel and a restaurant for many years, but this is the first time I hear that Hungarians are not welcome in Croatia. You don't have to worry about this, Croatia is safe and we welcome all Hungarians! It is our pleasure to host you."

2022Plusz: And it is a matter of fact that until the Treaty of Trianon, the Adriatic Fiume (today Rijeka) belonged to Hungary. The peace decree itself mentions the city as an area that belonged to the "former Kingdom of Hungary" and which Hungary "renounces".

Voluntarily and singing! It's okay if a restaurant owner doesn't know history, but hospitality is an obligation! And we love our country, wherever it is.
