Once again, Jobbik is fielding an extreme candidate: the party's president in Szeged, Zoltán Komjáti, made a living of Hitler on his Facebook page.
Zoltán Komjáti, with the support of the six left-wing parties, will be the candidate of Szegedért Egyesület in the by-election on June 26. Komjáti is the president of Jobbik in Szeged, and he already ran in the 2019 local government election in Szeged city constituency No. 1, but lost to the candidate of the governing parties, Béla Mihálffy.
László Botka, the left-wing mayor of Szeged, assured Komjáti of his support, and the candidacy of the candidate, who is also supported by the six left-wing parties, was announced at a joint press conference. However, no mention was made of the fact that the number 88 appearing in the commentary symbolizes the infamous greeting of Nazi Germany, the phrase "Heil Hitler". The number 8 stands for the eighth letter of the alphabet, or Ht, so 88 means "HH", or "Heil Hitler". The comment has since disappeared from the post .
The politician from Jobbik liked this comment in a comment under his photo on his social media page. Apparently, Jobbik is not bothered by the fact that its president in Szeged is a politician who supports extreme ideas, and the members of the left-wing rainbow coalition and mayor László Botka also support the candidate.
This is not surprising, since the parties of the left have previously turned a blind eye to the extremist, racist or anti-Semitic expressions of a politician, if their interests so desired. The case of László Bíró from Jobbik, who was supported by all six left-wing parties in 2020, in the by-election in Tiszaújvárós-Serencs, is memorable.
They supported Bíro despite the fact that the politician regularly made anti-Semitic statements, called the Jewish community "rooftops" and renamed Budapest Judapest. It can also be seen that Jobbik is still the same extreme party it was before, but this still has no consequences on the left.
