At Thursday's meeting, the Várad local council voted unanimously to accept the donation of the Roman Catholic Bishopric of Nagyvárad, the equestrian statue of Saint László, the work of sculptor Árpád Deák.

It was the initiative of the Roman Catholic Bishopric of Nagyvárad to place the equestrian statue of our holy king in the castle of Várad. The intention is followed by different stages of implementation.

The work, the 503-centimeter-high imposing equestrian statue, was created by the famous sculptor Árpád Deák from Varad and cast in bronze in the foundry in Újzimánd. The total cost of the construction was 260,400 euros.

The completed work has now been donated by the Roman Catholic bishopric to the municipality of Nagyvárad, but of course there are conditions for this. The local government can take over the statue on the condition that it undertakes to display it in accordance with the laws in force in the Várad castle in the place it had previously agreed with the bishopric.

The condition of the donation is that the statue must be kept in its original place, and if the mayor's office wants to move it from there later, it can only do so after prior agreement with the Catholic bishopric.

At the same time, the city undertakes to build the statue's pedestal at its own expense. The bishopric also reserves the right to hold events promoting the cult of Saint László in the castle. At the Thursday meeting of the Nagyvárad Local Council, it unanimously voted for the local council decision accepting the bishopric's donation, so it also accepted the above conditions.
