In four years, the number of British young people who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual has almost doubled, according to a survey published by the British Office for National Statistics (ONS) on May 25.
The office's data show that in 2020, 8 percent of 16- and 24-year-olds classified themselves as members of the LMB community. This represents an increase of almost one and a half percentage points compared to 6.6 percent in 2019, and almost double compared to 2016.
Based on the data, in 2020 almost every 12th British youth belonged to the LMB community.
3.1 percent of British adults identified themselves as lesbian, gay or bisexual. This also represents an increase compared to previous years: 2.7 percent in 2019 and 1.6 percent in 2014 classified themselves in this category.
At the same time, the report also found that the number of heterosexual adults shows a "decreasing trend", from 95.3 percent in 2014 to 93.6 percent in 2020, the portal reports.
