The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the charge d'affaires of the US embassy because the diplomat took a stand for the LGBTQ community on Twitter, the Lebanese news portal al-Nahar reported on Friday.

In his post, James Holtsnider quoted US President Joe Biden, who recently said that no one should live in fear because of who they are or who they love, and that all people deserve respect.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the embassy to respect Kuwaiti laws and refrain from such messages in the future.

In the Arab country, sexual relations between men can be punished with a prison sentence of up to seven years (the law does not provide for women).
