If the oil embargo was an atomic bomb for the economy, then the gas embargo is armageddon. Despite the fact that many people suggest this, the Hungarian government will definitely say no to any gas embargo proposal, because it will not let the Hungarian people pay the price of the war, said István Hollik, the communications director of the Fidesz-KDNP, in a video uploaded to Facebook on Thursday.
At the beginning of the video, Hollik reminded that Viktor Orbán achieved great success at the EU summit when he rejected the Brussels oil embargo proposals.
He added: however, the fight for reducing utilities is not over, as there are more and more people on the domestic and international scene who are now demanding a gas embargo after the oil embargo. In addition to the Ukrainian president, ambassador Ljubov Nepop also made a statement about this, and in the person of Olivio Kocsis-Cake, there was also a politician on the domestic left who demanded this.
The stakes are huge: the Hungarian utility reduction will protect the Hungarian people, we just have to look around Europe to see to what extent.
The price of residential electricity is six and a half times the Hungarian price in London, almost five and a half times in Copenhagen, and almost five times in Vienna and Rome.
With gas prices, the situation is even more drastic: compared to Hungarian residential prices, residents in Amsterdam pay 15 times as much, in Vienna 12 times as much, in Stockholm and London 11 times as much, but in Berlin nearly 10 times as much.
Based on these, it is quite clear that if the gas taps were shut off, gas prices would rise drastically and the economy would stop, István Holllik pointed out. He put it this way: if the oil embargo had been an atomic bomb for the economy, then the gas embargo would amount to Armageddon. "That's why we want to make it clear: we will not allow the Hungarian people to pay the price of the war, so we will answer with a firm no to any gas embargo proposal, just like the oil embargo," the ruling party politician stated.
