Naming the place of production is problematic, as Székelyföld is indicated on the packaging of 33 products.
According to the signs, there may soon be a serious shortage of Csíki Chips, after the competent authority stopped the production of the product on Thursday.
The decision is not based on quality or food safety reasons,
but pure Romanian chauvinism.
According to the announcement made public on the manufacturer's Facebook page, production has to be stopped because Székelyföld, not Romania, is named as the place of production on the packaging of 33 products. The immediate shutdown was ordered after a complaint by Romanian far-right activist Dan Tanasă.
The Romanian authorities
also called on Csíki Sör Manufaktúra to change the name Székelyföld to Romania.
Both Székelyföld companies are appealing against the decision and will not stop production and distribution.
