On Friday, June 17, Archbishop György Udvardy of Veszprém consecrated deacons András Solymos and Ágoston Tüttő as communion priests in the Little St. Therese Basilica in Keszthely. Retired Archbishop Gyula Márfi and the clergy of the Archdiocese concelebrated at the Holy Mass.
Among other things, the Archbishop said:
"Jesus prays like this: as the Father has sent me, so I send you. I do not ask, Father, that you take them out of the world, but that you sanctify them.
I am sending you as the Father has sent me, says Jesus. In the Church, this mission is becoming a reality today. We are waiting for that holy moment when God's creative and regenerating miracle takes place, and as holy priests of the Church you can get up and go to serve the people entrusted to you.
May the Lord God protect you, strengthen you, give you courage and comfort. Take care of yourselves and the flock.”
After the homily, the candidates for sacrificial priesthood promised to faithfully undertake their duties, then came before the chief pastor and kneeled down to promise respect and obedience to the archbishop and his successors. After that, during the litany of All Saints, the candidates fell on their faces, while the others knelt and prayed.
Then the chief pastor and the clergy present placed their hands on the heads of those to be ordained as sacrificial priests, and the consecration prayer was said. The vesting pastor put the stole and vestments on the new priests, and then the senior pastor anointed their hands with chrism. Finally, he handed them the tools of their service: the paten and the chalice, and finally, as the end of the consecration ceremony, he exchanged a kiss of peace with them. In the continuation of the ceremony, the ordained sacrificial priests joined their chief pastors in presenting the holy sacrifice.
The archbishop also greeted those celebrating the 50th anniversary of their ordination as sacrificial priests: parish priest Ervin Ákos of Gyenesdiás, titular abbot Károly Nagy, deacon, parish priest of St. Michael's Church in Veszprém. Their Golden Masses were also celebrated by titular dean Pál Balázs, theology teacher, retired parish priest of Balatonkenes, retired parish priest Major István Zalacsányi and retired parish priest József Szitás from Pacsa.
Before the final blessing of the Holy Mass, the New Mass Fathers also blessed their chief pastor.
Finally, György Udvardy expressed his gratitude to retired Archbishop Gyula Márfi for his participation, and to the priests and faithful who came and prayed together for the newly ordained. He thanked the representatives of the seminary in Esztergom for their participation, as well as thanked parish priest András Mezei and everyone for their service, especially the choirs and the cantor, who contributed to the celebration.
