The European Jewish Association (EJA) honored Sándor Pintér, Minister of the Interior, for his work in improving public security and fighting anti-Semitism, the United Hungarian Jewish Association (EMIH) - Hungarian Jewish Association told MTI on Tuesday.
The award was presented by Rabbi Menachem Margolin, President of the EJA. At its annual conference held in Budapest, the Brussels-based organization presented the study on Monday, which aggregates international research and ranks European countries based on the sense of security of Jews, anti-Semitism or even anti-Israel. According to this research, after Italy, Hungary is the second "friendliest" with Jews.
According to the announcement, at the award ceremony, Alex Benjamin, director of the EJA, praised the merits of the Minister of the Interior and the efforts of the Hungarian government. He mentioned that under the ministry of Sándor Pintér, the cooperation between the law enforcement agencies and the Jewish communities was improved, and that the government declared zero tolerance towards anti-Semitism. He touched on the fact that the law enforcement faculty of the National Public Service University has included the law enforcement and crime prevention of hate crimes among its subjects. A detailed investigation and application methodology related to the crime of publicly denying the crimes of the National Socialist and Communist regimes was developed. The penal code was amended so that in addition to incitement to violence against minorities, incitement to hatred is also punishable. And in the basic law, the protection of the dignity of the communities was guaranteed, the announcement reads.
