Leslie Sinclair, 66, is a committed donor who has given more than 60 liters of blood over the past five decades. During her last blood donation, however, she was expelled from the Albert Halls clinic in Stirling, Scotland, because as a man in his sixties, he refused to answer the question of whether he was pregnant, reports Híradó.hu with reference to the Daily Mail and the New York Post .
According to the clinic staff, since the man did not fill out the section on the question on the hospital form, they cannot accept his blood. The father of two, Leslie Sinclair, said that he has been donating blood since he was 18 years old, and nothing had ever happened to him before.
“You always have to fill out a form, that's fine. Asking about medical conditions or illnesses is normal, as the drawn blood is supposed to be safe. However, this attitude makes me angry, because there are people in danger of life who are waiting for blood, including children, they all need help.
BUT THEY REFUSED MY BLOOD BECAUSE I HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO ANSWER A QUESTION THAT I SIMPLY CANNOT,” Sinclair said.
According to Marc Turner, director of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service
IT IS NOT ALWAYS CLEAR TO THEIR EMPLOYEES WHOSE "GENDER ASSIGNED AT BIRTH" IS WHAT.
"While pregnancy is only relevant to those whose biological sex is female, gender at birth is not always clear to staff," Turner said.
As a state body, we are aware of the changes taking place in society, so we ask everyone the same questions without exception, explained the leader.
