"At least nine women were given date drugs at an invitation-only event attended by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and members of parliament." - announced the Social Democratic Party (SPD) on Saturday, after the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel wrote about the case.
Berlin police said they were investigating suspicion of grievous bodily harm after a 21-year-old woman filed a complaint following "a political party's summer party," AFP and Luxembourg's RTL reported.
The SPD says that they know of nine cases so far, but it is possible that more will be made public.
Internal SPD correspondence obtained by Tagesspiegel reveals that several women at the party fell unconscious - most likely due to the drug smuggled into their drink, which is best known in our country as gina or GHB.
Around 1,000 people along with the chancellor and MPs attended the SPD's traditional summer party before the parliamentary break.
