It has probably been a long time in this country that so many people counted at the same time as now. There are those who are thinking about what form of taxation they can choose instead of KATA and how it is worth it to them, while others are calculating how they could reduce their electricity and gas consumption to around the average consumption with some savings. - writes Zoltán Kaszab in his opinion article on vasarnap.hu.
In recent days, the government has taken two measures that have made the lives of millions easier and better in the past period. Thanks to KATA, hundreds of thousands of people were able to meet their public health obligation without administrative burdens, by paying an amount between 5-10% of their income. None of the KATA entrepreneurs were fraudsters, let's state this, as well as the fact that no one has said this to them in the past few days, not even among the government officials! However, everyone can see that taxing only 5% of their income was an extremely favorable situation. Perhaps the analogy is a bit exaggerated, but Serrano ham is on sale in the supermarket for only one week. Of course, KATA could have remained, as the Prime Minister alluded to in his last radio interview.
At the same time, the economic situation simply does not currently allow 450,000 people to pay only 5-10% tax.
These entrepreneurs were all the winners of the economic prosperity and smart economic policy of the past years, as they were able to use most of their growing income freely. Perhaps it is not from the devil to ask a part of them, a larger part of them, to pay a little more into the joint.
Then there is the overhead reduction. We've been hearing for months that energy prices have skyrocketed in Western Europe, many families spend 30-40% of their salary on utilities and according to the latest calculations, 50% of European families will be affected by so-called energy poverty this winter, which means that no they can heat their property as much as they want. And in recent weeks, it has also become evident that the government cannot completely independent itself from these international processes, no matter how much it wants to. Of course, many people say that the cabinet did not tell the truth during the election campaign, because it talked about being able to maintain the utility reduction.
In reality, however, it is a blatant lie that the government has not told the truth. In March, the situation looked completely different! At that time, there was still a realistic chance of a quick end to the war and no oil and gas embargo was demanded from Brussels.
At that time, there was still a real chance that the overhead reduction would be sustainable for everyone. Since then, however, as the Prime Minister put it, the European Union has shot itself in the lung, and such a wound is felt by the entire organization, even by the points farthest from the center. In this situation, there was no other choice but to reduce overheads. Just enough so that the majority of people don't feel it yet and those who have to pay more can be protected to a certain level. After all, just think about how much effort is required in the current situation in order to keep the previous prices for EVERYONE up to average consumption?
Of course, in the meantime, volunteer economists and political profiteers had already appeared, who quickly calculated who would have to pay and how much. At the same time, what is most important now is calmness. According to Szilárd Németh, they collect the incoming suggestions and refine the system based on them. And we can be sure that they will.
Until the detailed rules are published, there is only one thing worth considering: how can consumption be reduced? This is not only important for money, but also for the security of supply and the protection of our environment.
And here, too, the same thing arises in the case of KATA: thanks to the smart economic policy, Hungarian families were protected from the hectic movement of energy prices for the past 9 years and had to pay a predictable, predictable amount for their consumption. For the majority, this will continue to be the case, and those who were the biggest beneficiaries of the reduction in utility bills in the past 9 years will now have to reach a little deeper into their pockets.
At the same time, we can be sure of one thing: the tax and utility reduction government did not make the painful decisions in order to avoid bigger problems. That is why, in addition to expressing possible legitimate criticism, now is the time for understanding, support and cooperation.
