The young people were well prepared for the exams, and their teachers did a good job - stated the State Secretary of Public Education Zoltán Maruzsa in the Kossuth radio morning program in response to the question of what is the reason for this year's outstanding matriculation results.
The state secretary added that the fact that oral exams were organized again this year, in contrast to the years 2020-2021, when only written exams could be held due to the epidemic, also contributed to this.
In this exam period, students took a total of 320,000 intermediate-level and 65,000 advanced-level matriculation exams, which means that all of the 113,000 matriculants took the advanced-level exam at least once, explained Zoltán Maruzsa.
The two-level examination system was established in 2005. In the time that has passed since then, few substantive changes have taken place, which is due to the fact that society has accepted this, said the state secretary, who emphasized that the establishment of the two-level examination system became necessary due to higher education admissions. The middle level corresponds to the average graduation, and the advanced level aims to enter higher education, and is necessary for the continuation of more effective studies there, he emphasized.
The intermediate level exam remained clearly more popular because students like to fulfill the easier requirements, he pointed out.
This is not a problem at all, because it is not necessary for someone to get points in all five subjects for admission, he emphasized.
