On Wednesday afternoon in Tusványos, Krisztina Sándor, Executive President of EMNT (pictured), Sándor Tamás, Chairman of the Kovászna County Council, and Rostás Szabolcs, Editor-in-Chief of Krónika, discussed the figures and process of the naturalization process, the advantages of Hungarian citizenship and the problematic situations that arise.
To date, more than 55,000 Transylvanian Hungarians have applied for Hungarian citizenship, while 1.1 million worldwide have applied for citizenship, said Krisztina Sándor , executive president of the Transylvanian Hungarian National Council, in the Károly Kós tent in Tusványos on Wednesday afternoon. Based on his report, the naturalization process and birth registration, which concerns the registration of births, marriages and deaths, have been ongoing for twelve years and are still not completed. Naturalization is now a part of our lives - said the executive president of EMNT.
Sándor Tamás, the chairman of the Kovászna County Council, pointed out that according to surveys, 25 percent of Transylvanian Hungarians have still not applied for, but would like, dual citizenship. The RMDSZ and the Hungarian National Council of Transylvania are currently working together to ensure that everyone who is eligible receives Hungarian citizenship - it was said at the conversation. In the initial period of the simplified naturalization process, the motivation of those applying for citizenship was in several cases emotional, but many submitted their documents to one of the competent offices because of employment abroad. And among those who have not taken advantage of the opportunity until now, obtaining the necessary documents may be a problem for many, and there are also those who cite principled objections - explained Krisztina Sándor.
He emphasized that there are those who fear that they will not be able to receive their pension provided by the Romanian state if they become a dual citizen, but as he emphasized, this is a misconception. Hungarian citizenship comes with several benefits and support: a baby bond, maternity support, an electronic identity card, which allows you to travel in the Schengen zone, and a passport, which has a clear advantage over the Romanian document.
