The 40th Lake Balaton swim will be held on Saturday, due to the expected weather, it will be worthwhile for the participants to start as soon as possible, Ákos Horváth, the head of the observatory in Siófok, told the participants.
The meteorologist said that the mass sports event is expected to take place between two weak cold fronts. The arrival of a dry cold front approaching from the northwest is expected around 2 p.m., so participants should warm up as soon as possible. In addition, he added that Saturday is expected to be one of the hottest days of the year, from 24 degrees in the morning to 36-37 degrees during the day, and with the arrival of the front, the temperature will drop below 30 degrees in the evening. The water will warm up to 27-28 degrees in the afternoon - according to the forecast.
According to the information provided by the organizing committee on Thursday, the 12,000-person limit "has already been filled", so on the day of the event, there will be no possibility of "additional pre-registration or on-site registration". They indicated that due to the expected change in weather in the afternoon, the start time was brought forward, so you can start between 7 and 11 o'clock. They added: the participants come from 1,073 Hungarian settlements, and the Hungarian open water swimming team - Kristóf Rasovszky, Dávid Betlehem, Anna Olasz and Réka Rohács - will also start the competition.
In his previous press conference, race director István Máth said that the classic distance is 5.2 kilometers this time as well, the start will usually be at the soccer field in Révfülöp, while the finish line will be the Platán beach in Balatonboglár. The 2.6-kilometer half-distance starts from Balatonboglár, and the first half of the route must be completed in the lane next to the swimming corridor of the swim-through, then after 1.3 kilometers you can turn left and follow the field of the swim-through to the finish line.
