The whole of Europe, including Hungary, is in a special situation this year that has not been seen or experienced for a long time, and in addition to the crisis situation caused by the war conflict, we also have to deal with the extraordinary drought - Zsolt Kunhegyesen Feldman said in his greeting, organized within the framework of the Bread of the Magyars - 15 million grains of wheat program on the holiday of wheat consolidation, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Saturday.
The ministry's secretary of state responsible for agriculture and rural development emphasized: the Bread of Hungarians program, which has been taking place for twelve years with an increasingly broad cooperation, is a celebration of farmers' solidarity. Helping each other and taking responsibility are especially needed today, he said. As he put it, when many regions of the world are threatened by famine, the role of agriculture and the farming community will be appreciated at home, since the domestic food supply is ensured despite the changed climatic conditions and the factors that make production significantly more expensive.
Although there is less grain for export this year, and the harvested crop divided the country in two, enough corn was grown to feed Hungarian families. This is why the solidarity of the farming community towards each other is important, and the ministry asks the farmers living in the regions only partially affected by the drought to provide fiber fodder to the farmers in the drought-stricken eastern counties. It means survival for many livestock keepers, he said.
Zsolt Feldman also spoke about the fact that the government is committed to helping people living in agriculture. It was not by chance that the Drought Emergency Task Force, which was created to deal with the consequences of the drought and energy prices in agriculture, was established and held its first meeting on Friday.
They can be sure that the Hungarian government understands and feels the current difficult situation, and has responsibly represented the interests of Hungarian farmers up to now - explained the state secretary, according to the announcement.
At the celebration of the wheat collection held in Kunhegyes in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, Csaba Imre Hubai, the county president of the National Chamber of Agrarian Economy, assessed as a significant success that despite the extremely poor harvest results, the farmers in the county offered 104 tons of wheat this year. As he said, the settlement, which is proud of its 700-year history, was happy to host the Bread of Hungarians program, thereby contributing to helping those in need in the Carpathian Basin.
