It is a decades-old regulation that it is necessary to maintain a temperature of at least 20 degrees Celsius in educational buildings, which does not mean that it cannot be higher.

Contrary to the claims published in the media today, no decision, "order" or "instruction" or new legislation has been made regarding the heating of schools, the Ministry of the Interior stated in its statement.

They pointed out: it is a decades-old – so not new – regulation that it is necessary to maintain a temperature of at least 20 degrees Celsius in educational buildings, which does not mean that it cannot be higher. The heating of educational institutions has been solved everywhere, the ministry emphasized. They announced: "despite the European energy crisis caused by the war and Brussels sanctions, the government is preparing for a normal school year, we plan to heat the schools as usual, if the European energy situation allows it."

"Furthermore, due to the gas crisis in Europe, we must prepare for all possibilities, including the extreme case that there will not be enough gas in Europe. The lack of gas heating can even affect the Hungarian population - including the schools - which is why the government has ordered an energy emergency, the purchase of additional gas, the increase of gas production and the assessment of other possible ways of heating the schools," the Ministry of the Interior wrote, adding: they are constantly monitoring the international and the domestic energy situation.
