President of the Republic Katalin Novák had a private audience with Pope Francis in the Vatican on Thursday, which lasted about forty minutes and was held in Spanish. When asked by Hír TV, the head of state said that the visit had three important topics. The first was the Holy Father's visit to Hungary, and Katalin Novák handed him an official letter of invitation.
According to him, Pope Francis has confirmed that he intends to visit Hungary next spring, so the organization of the next papal visit to Hungary can begin.
According to the head of state's information, the second topic was the Russian-Ukrainian war, in connection with which it was established that the common goal is to restore peace in Europe.
Pope Francis speaks for peace, prays for peace and does everything he can to be an ambassador of peace. We Hungarians also speak out for peace, this visit also strengthened our commitment to peace
said the head of state. In this regard, Pope Francis also highlighted the need for female leaders who can be messengers of peace in the world. That is why he encouraged the president of the republic to do everything to create peace in Ukraine even in such a difficult period.
And the third topic - he continued - was the Hungarian family policy, within the framework of which
Pope Francis praised the measures taken by the Hungarian government and why it is important to stand up and preserve traditional family values.
In addition to all this, they also talked about how much Hungary has done in recent years to help persecuted Christians, which it will continue to do in the future. As he said, the Vatican recognizes and supports the work of Hungary and the Hungary Helps Program.
