As is known from the news reports, the parliamentarians of Mi Hazánk will set up a statue of Horthy on Tuesday in the Parliament, in Dóra Dúró's office, on the occasion of the anniversary of the second decision in Vienna. Of course, the DK liberals immediately freaked out. Olga Kálmán, the faction spokesperson of the Democratic Coalition (DK), responded to the event in a statement:
"The position of the Democratic Coalition is that anyone who thinks like a Nazi, who argues like a Nazi, and who pays tribute to and commemorates a pro-Nazi head of state, is himself a Nazi. There is nothing to beautify or explain," he writes. He also announced:
"If the president of the parliament tolerates this Nazi provocation, then, among his many other crimes, he himself will bear the mud stain of Nazi filth from now on. Nazis have no place in Parliament. In no capacity," Olga Kálmán expresses her opinion.
Mandiner asked Speaker László Kövér about the move of the radical party. "The decision of the vice-president on how to arrange his office, the Office of the Parliament is not in a position to limit this decision," was the reply from the Office of the Parliament.
2022 plus:
So far, the dry facts, but it's worth meditating on the painful, tortured face of Olga Kálmán. First of all, the effort is visible on the wrinkled foreheads, because as we know, showing doing nothing as a feverish activity is indeed exhausting. Because we still remember the times when Olgika was called a very smart person by left-wing liberals, but as you know, appearances are sometimes deceiving. Although, according to experience, if someone is rumored to be smart, he remains so, he can talk nonsense and do stupid things. Olga and her friends are convinced that they carry the Philosopher's Stone in their pockets, that they know everything better than anyone else, of course without having any deeper knowledge. They are the same with Miklós Horthy, because their group considers him a Nazi. If some people - including Olga Kálmán - had some intelligence, they should think about two things:
Even today, historians argue about the II. about his role in World War II, but it says a lot that in the Nuremberg trial conducted by the victorious powers, Miklós Horthy was questioned only as a witness, so he was not classified as a war criminal. He then lived freely in Portugal until his death.
It is also noteworthy that the cover for the Horthy family's trip from Germany to Portugal was created by three Hungarian Jews living in America, and even in Germany, a well-known Zionist, Ruben Hecht, visited the governor, who thanked Horthy for what he had done for the Jews. In fact, according to stories, he also later received financial support from American Jews.
These are facts, and how one judges Miklós Horthy's role - with Olga Kálmán at the head - is a private matter, but that does not mean that those who see his historical role differently, perhaps more realistically, should be de-Nazified.
