The Romanian Football Association hit the Universitatea of Cluj with a fine and a stadium closure for two matches due to the anti-Hungarian expressions of its fans.
The sports association's disciplinary committee made its decision at its Wednesday meeting. Accordingly, the treasured city club team, which was promoted to the Super League this year, was fined 25,000 lei, and at the same time, it must play its next two home matches in a different stadium. "Exile" refers to matches against FCU Craiova 1948 and Chindia Târgoviște. After the decision, the Szamos-parti club announced that the match against the team from Oltya, scheduled for Friday, will be played in Medgyesen.
The August 22nd match between the Universitatea of Cluj and Sepsi OSK of Sepsiszentgyörgy had to be interrupted due to the anti-Hungarian chants of the Cluj fans. The meeting organized in the 6th round of the football Super League was interrupted in the 26th minute by referee Sebastian Colțescu, after the ultras of the Cluj club started chanting anti-Hungarian chants. At the same time, the supporters of Kolozsvári U, who are known for their xenophobia and anti-Hungarianism, also put up several molinos with inscriptions in Romanian, insulting and threatening Hungarians. One of them had the following inscription: “1920. June 4 - August 4, 1919. Székelyland does not exist". The two dates refer to the signing of the Trianon peace decree and the entry of the Romanian army into Budapest. In addition, the ultras of the treasured city also stretched shirts with a quote from Avram Iancu, while another called the football clubs of Székelyföld "horthysts".
"Just as the dreams of Great Hungary and Székelyföld must be nipped in the bud/Horthyst teams, Sepsi, Csíkszereda and Udvarhely must also be removed from the football map," read the other Hungarian-defaming inscription. In addition, the ultras of the U of Cluj-Napoca chanted rhymes defaming Hungarians and Hungary and set off firecrackers. Referee Sebastian Colțescu therefore called the teams off the field and stopped the game for about ten minutes, which then resumed. According to the regulations, if similar chants continue even after the referee's warning, the match may be canceled permanently; this ultimately did not take place. Anyway, Sepsi OSK managed to win the match in the middle of the chauvinist interlude, the Triszék team took the lead in the 52nd minute with Rondo's goal and did not let the victory slip away.
