On September 11, 2001, two passenger planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York.
The first plane hit the north tower of the WTC at 8:46 a.m. local time, and the second plane hit the south tower at 9:03 a.m. local time. A third hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington at 9:37 a.m. The passengers on the fourth plane tried to regain control, so it crashed over Pennsylvania.

The two towers of the WTC collapsed within two hours. Three thousand people died in the attack. As a direct consequence of the events of September 11, the USA started a war against Afghanistan.
