The numbers clearly show that migration has increased by leaps and bounds this year compared to previous years. Speaking to Magyar Hírlap, János Halász, the deputy leader of the Fidesz faction, also drew attention to the fact that the current wave is bigger than it was during the memorable 2015 migration, and that we can regularly experience its consequences, which threaten the public safety of the country, which is why he considers it essential , that the government extended the migration emergency.
According to Halász, the numbers clearly show that even more people are trying to enter Hungary illegally than the great wave of migrants in 2015. At that time, 170,000 migrants arrived by the end of September, and now we have approached this number, which will most likely exceed the previous record by the end of the month. Last year, 60,000 people tried in a similar time, which means that their number has almost tripled. Currently, more than a hundred thousand migrants are on the way on the Balkan route. All of this proves that the government's decision was a responsible one, which the faction naturally supports.
Winter is approaching, so migrants are trying to get to Hungary and Europe before the cold sets in; on the other hand, they have a huge supply, since the number of people arriving via the Balkan route is fed by millions of people waiting in Turkey. In addition, the situation in Afghanistan strengthened the process, and the situation in many countries in Africa is also uncertain, which is why many people also come from there. Together, these factors triggered an unprecedented scale of migration, and that is why we are seeing more people attacking the Hungarian border than the 2015 wave.
Clearly, the migrants have become much more aggressive, in recent weeks they have attacked the reinforcements of the border fence in numerous cases, threaten the border guards who act against them, and try to intimidate them by showing them weapons.
Close to the border, human trafficking gangs are already fighting each other, which leads to armed clashes, and we have seen many examples of this this year. The government has already decided to strengthen the border fence, and we are primarily trying to prevent ladder attempts. In addition, the training of border hunters has also started, so far more than 1,500 have applied, and the training of the first five hundred border hunters has already begun. It is expected that after a four-week training, they will be able to go into service at the end of the month, thereby relieving the burden on our police and soldiers.
The confirmation of the emergency situation is justified by the fact that migration and crime go hand in hand, and if a migrant sets foot in the country, it leads directly to the occurrence of various crimes in Hungary.
News came to light at the beginning of the month that a twenty-three-year-old migrant tried to rape his seventeen-year-old colleague in a fast food restaurant in Budapest, but luckily the lady managed to escape. The migrant was apprehended and prosecuted, but this is how migrants enter the country. We have also heard of accidents that can clearly be linked to migration. The police wanted to stop a van in Zalaegerszeg, the driver started to flee and overturned while transporting thirty-six migrants. An even more serious incident occurred near Kapuvár, where a minibus with twelve people in it drove from the Répce bridge into the riverbed, all of them were injured, and four died. Migration creates very dangerous situations, and for us, the safety of Hungary and Hungarian families comes first.
As before, the readiness for action of the units on the border will be preserved, in an emergency it is easier to command and regroup these units, and it is easier to provide them with the necessary resources. In a dangerous situation, action against illegal immigrants and people smugglers can work much more effectively, the Fidesz deputy faction leader pointed out.
