The price of annual toll stickers will increase less than planned next year, and regular road users will benefit from the restructuring of toll rates for cars, motorcycles and buses effective from January, the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) told MTI.
They emphasized that although the legal provisions would enable automatic inflation monitoring, the price of annual national and county e-stickers, which are best-selling among Hungarian customers, will increase by only five percent at the beginning of 2023. The fee arrangement prorates the consideration of monthly and weekly products to the level fixed in the European directives.
They touched on the fact that the domestic expressway network has expanded since 2010 at a rate never seen before. Thanks to the investments completed in recent years, we can now drive on four-lane roads to Eger, Salgótarján, Sopron, Szolnok, Szombathely and Veszprém.
The international connections of the Hungarian highways have become tighter, and high-quality road connections have been built to Austria, Romania and Slovakia, they explained.
The previously adopted amendment to the law enabled the automatic, inflation-tracking increase of road tolls from last year. Nevertheless, the price of annual stickers for cars, motorcycles, buses and trailers will not increase according to the current consumer price index, but only by five percent from next January.
The thirteen-month national entitlement for passenger cars can be purchased for HUF 49,190, nearly five thousand forints cheaper than the inflation-adjusted price. And the county one for almost HUF 600 less, still at an extremely favorable price of HUF 5,720 - according to the TIM announcement.
It was noted: the monthly and weekly e-sticker prices proportional to the annual rates have so far fallen short of the level allowed in the EU directive.
The fee for the monthly car license will be HUF 8,900, and the weekly license valid for 10 days will be HUF 5,500 from the beginning of 2023 , they said, adding that, even with the gasoline price cap, motorists spend multiples of both items for a single fill-up of fuel. Those who are only passing through Hungary, and those who change their authorization for a shorter period of time, thus bear a larger share of the operating and maintenance costs, they noted.
According to the table published by the ministry, the annual national road usage fee for passenger cars will be HUF 49,190. From January 2023, the weekly (10-day) national sticker for motorbikes (vehicle category D1M) will be HUF 2,750, the monthly sticker will be HUF 4,450, the annual sticker will be HUF 49,190, and county stickers will be available for HUF 5,720.
In the case of buses (vehicle category B2), the weekly (10-day) national sticker will be HUF 17,730, the monthly sticker will be HUF 25,150, the annual sticker will be HUF 228,850, and the county sticker will be HUF 22,890.
In the system proportional to the distance traveled by trucks, the date of the inflation-tracking increase will be brought forward from the first of January to the middle of October this year.
