Sebastian Burdon has been shocking the public with his works for fifteen years. The contemporary artist who goes by the name whatshisname specializes in creating sculptures, graphics and public art projects.
Not just any kind.
One of America's symbols, the nearly 204-ton Statue of Liberty, also known as the Liberty Enlightens the World statue, has stood in front of New York since 1886, on Liberty Island, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The statue was a gift from France on the occasion of the centenary of the independence of the United States of America. The work of art symbolizes nothing else - as its name makes clear - other than freedom.
Burdon's work, the sculpture called "Freedom Riot", was created in honor of the riots taking place in the United States in 2020. This was the riot sparked by the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.
Altering the original statue, the artist covered the face of Szabadság, depicted as a woman, with a scarf, positioned her body and the torch in her hand so that it looked as if she was about to throw it.
Black Lives Matter was created in 2013 as a civil movement fighting for the rights of black people. Since then, the organization has been criticized countless times for representing a far-left ideology, playing on the incitement between blacks and whites, and allowing protesters to be violent in its name.
Among the main demands of the Black Lives Matter movement, which was brutally strengthened due to the protests of 2020, were the withdrawal of resources intended for law enforcement from the police throughout the country and regrouping them to other city offices. To everyone's shock, several cities gave in to the radical demands.
It is also known that the BLM movement is not short of funds, and György Soros, among others, supports the operation of the organization. Recently, for example, he took care of trying to prevent the police of the city of Austin, Texas, from rebuilding its staff, which was reduced as a result of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Invented and created by DC Comics, Superman is one of the most well-known and popular characters in the world. Superman is an iconic character, as he not only laid the foundations of superhero comics as a genre, but also had a great influence on pop culture.
Burdon recreated the character and gave him the name Superthem instead of Superman, referring to queer ideology.
It depicted the woke-Superman as a pregnant man with his hands resting around his belly, similar to the pregnant man emoji.
The artist received mixed reviews online for the innovation. Some welcomed this level of transformation of the grandpa-aged superhero, while others said the statue was simply "a super shame".
