Geert Wilders, a member of the Dutch House of Representatives, was awarded the middle cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on his official social media page.
Péter Szijjártó wrote that President Katalin Novák presented the award to the member of the Dutch House of Representatives on the occasion of August 20 for his support of Hungary and his activities to stop illegal immigration.
At the award ceremony, Péter Szijjártó said: we are living in difficult times, because when everyone thought we had escaped the grip of the pandemic, this hope quickly became an illusion with the war taking place in Hungary's neighborhood and all its consequences.
In the past twelve years, Hungary has had to face many challenges and crises, and the Hungarian responses to crises have always gone against the mainstream, they have both been about asserting national interests, they have all been successful, and they have always been met with huge attacks - the minister referred to the fence built on the border, among other things , the first purchased Eastern vaccines against the coronavirus, and the fact that the government did not respond to the economic crisis with aid, but with investment support.
Péter Szijjártó put it this way: today in Europe, politics, political discourse and the public are dominated by the liberal mainstream, which is clearly striving for hegemony, which claims to be tolerant, but is actually the most intolerant "sector", because it does not tolerate opinions, persons.
"The liberal mainstream hates everything conservative, Christian or national. He considers the family to be some kind of ancient structure, patriotism and patriotism as dangerous. The liberal mainstream wants to get rid of everyone who doesn't fall in line, especially those who are willing to talk about it openly," the minister added.
In this situation, he emphasized, we must especially value friendships and those friends who openly accept this friendship.
He went on to say that they are trying to build a false, lying image about Hungary, according to which Hungary is an isolated country without friends. The situation is the opposite, as Hungary has friends, he declared.
One of Hungary's friends is representative Geert Wilders - he continued - who is not afraid to take his position when it comes to action against migration, he is not afraid to take his opinion when it comes to protecting the sovereignty of European countries, talking about the importance of peace or when it comes to the failure of sanctions .
Geert Wilders always stood up for the good cause and for us, the Hungarians, which Hungary values highly - emphasized Péter Szijjártó, adding: the award speaks to this and to the confidence that we can count the representative among our friends in the future.
In his speech, Geert Wilders expressed his gratitude for the award and said: Hungary is the country of the powerful, of the giants, it fought for its freedom for centuries.
Today, Hungary is a proud nation and one of the bravest in Europe, as it protects Christian values from cultural relativism and progressive liberal views like no other, said the Dutch politician.
He added that Hungary believes in nationality, national identity and sovereignty. He supports patriotism and proudly fights for family values, and knows no compromises when it comes to freedom or justice, said Geert Wilders.
The Dutch representative said that they value their friends a lot, and it should not be forgotten that, compared to Western politicians, Hungarians are role models for millions of people around the world, and Hungary has many supporters.
He recalled that the Dutch and Hungarians had a special relationship for centuries. He believed: Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is doing well to put Hungarian interests first.
The Swedish, Italian and Hungarian elections show that we are moving towards patriotism and conservatism, he said, and expressed hope that the Netherlands and other countries will also follow the path of this "evolution".
Geert Wilders added: this award makes him even more committed to fighting for justice, which is not always an easy path, but it is the only right path.
