On Benedek Elek's birthday, on September 30, we celebrate Hungarian folktale day. On this occasion, the National Folktale Conference will be held in Eger, at the Lyceum, on Friday and Saturday.
The purpose of Folktale Day is for people who love fairy tales, such as librarians, kindergarten teachers, teachers and experts dealing with fairy tales, and last but not least, children to turn with special respect to the fairy tales of both Hungarian and other peoples on this day.
The National Folktale Conference was jointly organized by the Institute of Linguistics and Literature of Eszterházy Károly Catholic University (EKKE) and the Metamorphoses Fairy Tale Therapy Association.
Dr. Márta Zsuzsanna Pintér, dean of the EKKE Faculty of Arts and Sciences, head of the Department of Literature, opened the two-day event.
The Faculty of Humanities and Arts is one of the university's most colorful faculties, we also deal with visual arts and literature, so everything that will be discussed at this conference. Our story began in 2017, when we managed to win Ildiko Boldizsár to become a lecturer at our university. He started giving story courses to the students and started further training in the field of Creator-developmental story therapy, which has been completed by more than thirty people - explained Dr. Zsuzsanna Márta Pintér.
After the opening, the participants listened attentively to the story of Maja Bumberák, a member of the Storytelling Association. This also shows
the tale is not only for children, it can captivate adults just as much, it has something to say for them as well.
This is also why the wide-ranging field of science is connected to fairy tales, which Ildikó Boldizsár - who, among other things, is a fairy tale researcher and the creator of the Metamorphoses Fairy Tale Therapy Method - spoke about.
Folktale Day has been celebrated since 2005, and this day had to be declared because at that time folktales were not very much in focus. It started to be forgotten, almost only children kept the stories. It became necessary to draw attention to this wonderful genre, said the story therapist.
This conference is of historical importance, as it is the first time that the experts who deal with fairy tales are together.
Ildikó Boldizsár shared with the participants that when he wrote his thesis, he was very surprised at how many definitions there are of the fairy tale, and how many trends in fairy tale research are related to it. Nowadays, this amount of information has tripled, so it is very difficult for those who want to see it through.
The two-day conference provides a comprehensive picture of fairy tales and helps you get to know the complex and diverse genre to which they belong. Among other things, the message of folk tales, the magazine Mese, and therapeutic methods related to fairy tales are also discussed.
