Thanks go to the older generation for doing a lot for the country during their active years, both at work and in their families. The main goal of the government is to preserve the purchase value of pensions and to encourage childbearing, emphasized the President of the Parliament Pápán on Saturday.

László Kövér stated at the event of the Pápai Nyugdíjasok Interest Protection and Advocacy Association, celebrating the 30th anniversary of its existence, on the World Day of the Elderly, that the priority goal of the government is to preserve the quality of life of the elderly and to encourage young people to have children through state support.

As he said, in today's war-torn situation, it is extremely important for the older generation to share their life experience and historical memories with the young, who hopefully will not have to experience a war period.

László Kövér emphasized:

thanks to the older generation for doing a lot for the country in their active years both at work and in their families. Due to their life experience, they often kept the spirit in others, he added.

He recalled: five years ago, on the 25th anniversary of the association, it was said that we had overcome a deep economic crisis, but since then we had to face new crisis situations. After the covid crisis, the difficulties caused by the war overshadow everyday life.

"This war is not ours", we did not start it and we have nothing to do with why it is being fought. In fact, the Russian-Ukrainian war has deeper reasons, it is not only taking place between the two countries, and its economic consequences deeply affect Hungary as well, he underlined.

However, the goal and message of today - forgetting the difficulties for a while - is to be together, talk and share family joys with friends and acquaintances, he added.

Éva Baán, the president of the Association for the Protection of Interests and Representation of the Papal Pensioners, in her welcome speech in the presence of around five hundred guests, mentioned that a publication covering the association's three decades of history was published on the occasion of the anniversary. In 1991, the United Nations declared October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons.
