As of July 1, 2021, the sale of single-use plastics, including plastic straws, ear cleaning sticks, cutlery, plates, balloon sticks, and nylon bags with a wall thickness between 15 and 50 microns, was banned. From January 1, 2023, single-use plastic cups will also be banned.
As of July 1, 2023, the waste management system will be put on a new foundation with the concession system in order to ensure that the components of the products remain in the economy's bloodstream as long as possible. In the new system, the concessionaire must ensure the management of the waste that is compulsorily handed over to it, as well as that 60 percent of municipal waste is recycled and reprocessed by 2030.
They launched the Let's Clean the Country! program, within the framework of which around 33,000 tons of illegally dumped waste have been collected so far - on a thousand freight cars. They will not stop here until all illegal landfills are eliminated and prevented from re-emerging. More than 19,000 reports have already been received through the Hulladék Radar application, with the help of which Hungarians can easily and quickly report the illegal landfills they detect.
