The FBI is already aware of Dávid Korányi's illegal campaign financing scandal, after Balázs Szabó, local council representative from Újpest, caught himself and announced on the FBI tip page that Dávid Korányi was able to collect donations for the Hungarian elections in violation of not only Hungarian but also American laws (conditional mode) influencing. We await the response of the Federal Bureau of Investigation with interest.
If it is not elegantly swept under the desk, the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, should probably open an investigation into Action for Democracy. According to the available information (statements by Péter Márki-Zay and Gergely Karácsony, as well as MMM's financial reports), there is a clear possibility that the billions transferred from overseas during the election campaign may have violated not only Hungarian campaign finance laws, but also an American federal law.
As we already know, the organization founded by Dávid Korányi, the mayor's chief adviser on city diplomacy who failed and resigned a few days ago, supported the Everyone Hungary Movement and presumably the election campaign of the Hungarian opposition with at least 1.8 billion forints. The National Bureau of Investigation recently ordered an investigation into the case due to money laundering and embezzlement, and in addition - presumably - those involved will also have to answer for illegal campaign financing. In addition to the Hungarian law, the laws of the United States were also probably violated. Balázs Szabó, a member of the Újpest local government, filed a complaint with the FBI against Korányi.
Based on the FCPA law, the organizations that carry out the above crimes can be sentenced to a fine of up to 1 million dollars, while the perpetrators - in this case, Dávid Korányi and members of his organization - can be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to 10,000 dollars.
