Hungary's goal is to stay out of the European economic recession caused by the war in Ukraine, and this requires a national response to previous crises, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated on Friday in Somogyszob. Péter Szijjártó at the handover ceremony of the investment of Agro-Build Kft., a subsidiary of the Claessens group of companies.
Hungary has had to deal with numerous crises in the past twelve years, and the common thing in all of them is that the country has always come out of crises stronger than when it went into them . This is possible because in each case we gave a specifically Hungarian answer based on Hungarian interests - stated the head of the ministry, who put it this way: "we did not swim with the international mainstream, but decided exclusively in favor of the Hungarian national interest" . Thus, in retrospect, we can say that we were right in every case - added Péter Szijjártó.
The minister reminded that it was the same during the coronavirus epidemic: Hungary did not wait for western vaccines, but bought the eastern ones, and "we were able to save the lives of hundreds of thousands of Hungarian people" . Furthermore, this was also the case in the economic aspect of the epidemic, since we did not use the government resources to finance unemployment, but to help the investments of Hungarian companies in order to prevent unemployment, he pointed out.
Péter Szijjártó said that now, when there is a war, we give a special Hungarian response, within the framework of which "we are trying with all our might to guarantee Hungary's security and our country's exclusion from the war" . The war brings a new reality to the world economy, and the economy of the European continent moves towards a serious recession. He emphasized: "we also want to stay out of this recession" . For this, as he explained, "the already well-known national response is needed" . It roughly looks like, as long as we help Hungarian companies to implement more and more investments, we will be able to stay out of the recession, said the minister. He said that for the former, it is necessary to guarantee a safe environment for companies from three aspects: political stability, physical security and the stability of the energy supply must be guaranteed. "Hungary can provide all three , and this creates a particularly unique situation in Europe," declared the head of the ministry.
He pointed out that in terms of energy supply, they won another victory on Thursday night, when they managed to prevent a decision from being made in Brussels that would have made Hungary's natural gas supply impossible, even in the short term. Contracts for long-term gas purchases are exempt from the so-called price cap regulation, he said. According to Péter Szijjártó, the fact that, thanks to the investments, the Hungarian economy was able to perform excellently in the most difficult times is a cause for confidence. The year 2021, which was a black year for the world economy, has become a record year for the Hungarian economy, and we can show economic growth exceeding 7 percent in the first half of this year as well, he indicated . He emphasized that an important role was played in this great result by those brave companies that did not see the way out in downsizing even in the most difficult times, but made new investments. Among these companies is the Claessens group of companies - added Péter Szijjártó.
